1. File unemployment

Unemployment benefits have advanced in the last few years. There are no more long lines at a random office 25 miles from your home. Everything can be processed online in most states, and your interview can be scheduled by phone as well. Don’t wait to file! Most unemployment offices have a waiting period before dispersing funds; therefore, the longer you put it off, the delay for your first check will be pushed out. Do this first, get it out the way and then set your plan for execution.

2. Contact a Lawyer

During this time of uncertainty, many people will lose jobs; however, there are a few that will be pushed out, and the job loss will be blamed on the uncertain times. If you are the only employee on a team to be let go and there appears or could be unfair decision making behind it. Never hesitate to run your concerns past a professional before chopping it up as – coronavirus impact. Companies are known to take advantage of good and bad markets. Masking their actual reasons with the latest news. Retaliation is a thing, racism is a thing, discrimination is a thing, but none of those things mean you need to be a victim, know your rights, and request your work contract.

Jobs will be scarce for a time as many people are going to be qualified for a few open roles. Therefore, it’s time to dust the cobwebs off your resume.
